News: Disaster Planning

Don't be caught unprepared! When evacuation becomes necessary, it's not a good idea to leave pets behind.
If you must evacuate, take your pet! Your animals best protection is being with you, and taking your pet requires special planning. Evacuation shelters generally don't accept animals, so locate a safe place for your pets before disaster strikes. TCHS has been actively planning with the community to locate areas where pets could be housed near the shelters for people.

Disaster Supplies:
Portable carrier (essential for cats)
Leash
Supply of your pet's food and water in plastic containers
Food and water bowls
Litter and litterbox for cats
Supply of your pet's regular medications
First aid kit
Health records, including vaccination records
Instructions for feeding schedule and diet, medications, and any special needs
Name and phone number of your veterinarian.

Keep up-to-date identification on your pet at all times.
Keep current color photos of your pet with your emergency supplies.
