| News: 2007 Happy Endings |

"Helping one animal won't change the world....... but it will change the world for that one animal."
As we dive into a new year of helping animals, I can't help but reflect on some of the happy endings we were involved with in 2007. When close to 4000 animals come through each year, you'd think it'd all be a blur, but there are always a special few you will never forget. I asked staff to turn in some of their favorite and most memorable moments in 2007. Here is a sample of the worlds we changed for a few animals in 2007:
There was once a very thin hound we had FOREVER named Trooper. He had been adopted out and came back a couple times. Trooper was the typical hard-to-place hound. He was here for 3 months before he was finally adopted. About 11 months later, 2 dogs were running around in the shelter's parking lot. At least they knew a safe place to go visit! We took them in and it wasn't long before someone called looking for them. Their owners were thrilled to find them and lo and behold, one of the dogs was Trooper. He looked so great we didn't even recognize him. They love him and he has a wonderful home.
If you follow our website, you might remember Toddy. He came to us from very caring people who had owned Toddy's unaltered parents for 4 years, and they had never had puppies before. One parent was a purebred hunting lab and the other was a purebred Miniature Dachshund. Given the size difference, they didn't think puppies were a possibility. It was an accidental litter and they were really trying to take responsibility for it and do the right thing. The male was neutered right away. They took the puppies to a vet to be checked over and found out Toddy had a problem with his eye. They wanted to have it fixed before they found a home for him but discovered it was much more than they could afford. So Toddy came to us for help. He had skin growing on his eye and if he didn't have surgery, he would go blind in that eye. As we sometimes do, we started a fund for Toddy. I emailed his story around and a dear friend in the Twin Cities (Patrice) took interest in Toddy's dilemma. She took his story to her vet who graciously offered to do the surgery for Toddy for a fraction of the cost. Patrice, her husband Ken, and their two Sheepdogs fostered Toddy so he'd be close to the vet and available for checkups after the surgery. Toddy was adopted soon after returning from his surgery. We checked in on him during the holidays and they reported everything was great and he’s the best dog ever!
Thank you for your support of the work we do for animals. These stories are only a sample of the many “happy tails” you’ve enabled us to be able to tell. I’m honored to be a voice for them and thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring and sharing. Vicki Davis, CAWA TCHS, Executive Director
